Day 1: Dehradun to Gangotri drive.

Prepare to depart Dehradun at 6 a.m. to embark on your journey. The day will be longer because you’ll be traveling 243 kilometers to Gangotri. It will be an unforgettable 8.5-hour journey across the gorgeous Scottish Highlands. The first major attraction would be Mussorie, a well-known hill station about 36 kilometers from Dehradun. From the hill station, one can see the Shivalik Ranges. You will arrive at Uttarkashi, the Gods’ territory, after a quick stop for lunch and some sightseeing in Dhanulti, ChambaUttarkashi is located on the banks of the Bhagirathi River. All of the temples and religious figures will convince you that you are indeed in the Land of the Gods. The Bhagirath Highway leads to the lovely Harshil town. Harshil is known for its apple orchards, which offer a visual break from the city. Harshil is the ideal spot for a relaxing evening amidst the mountains.
Even after the long journey to Gangotri, you’ll wish it didn’t have to come to an end. On the banks of the Bhagirathi River, Gangotri is a pilgrimage place. You can stroll through the local market, and chat with locals. After a great home-cooked meal, retire to the guest house for the night.

Day 2: Acculturation Day at Gangotri

Have breakfast and spend the rest of the day immersed in holy energy. Today is the day for acclimatization now that you’ve reached a height of 10172 feet. Acclimatization is a type of health supplement that helps your body adjust to changes in the environment, such as low temperatures. You can take advantage of being in Gangotri, one of the four Char Dhams while doing so. The Gangotri temple, which was built in the 18th century, is the largest. You can also go to the BhagirathShila, a holy rock where King Bhagirath worshipped Lord Shiva, and the PandavaGufa, where the Pandavas rested. Many foreigners can be seen meditating and wandering around. Spend the night in the guest’s home and prepare for the hike ahead.

Day 3: Gangotri to Chirbasa

Start your day with a delicious meal and prepare to begin your mountain trek. You’ll be trekking through pine forests next to the magnificent Bhagirathi River. There will be steady ascents, but the walk will be easy and take about 4-5 hours.  You’ll also come across some streams and waterfalls where you may refill your water bottles. The hike will take place entirely within the Gangotri National Park. You will be greeted by stones from the Sudarshan peak near the finish of the walk; simply cross them to reach the campground. With the Bhagirathi river pouring on the right and nestled in between the mountains under the pine trees, this will be the most gorgeous campsite.

Day 4Chirbasa to Bhojwasa

Get rejuvenated to trudge anew by waking up to stunning glowing views of sun rays on high summits. This will be a simple 2-3 hour hike with a gentle incline. The trail widens now, allowing you to have a better perspective of the Bhagirathi peaks. The Bhojwasa originated from Bhopatra trees, often known as birch trees, which are plentiful in the area. This is the valley’s largest section, offering the best view of Mount Shivling. There is an ashram, a police station, and a rest house, as well as some igloo-style dwellings. You can stay in those houses if you have the necessary licenses. After lunch at the campsite, relax in the afternoon. In the tents, spend a chilly night.

Day 5: Bhojwasa to Tapovan

The day has arrived when the walk will be the most difficult and longest, so eat well, pack a lunch, fill water bottles, bring energy snacks, and be ready to be excited. The journey to Gomukh is relatively straightforward. Gomukh is the terminus of the Gangotri glacier, and thus the sacred Ganges river’s source. Visiting the Ganges is considered a blessing by most religious people. From here, the trail becomes steeper and more full of rock boulders. The glacier’s rock moraines make the ascent tough, but they also eliminate the need for technical gear. To make the climb easier, use a trekking pole. Sadhus who come to Tapovan for meditation are well-known. It also serves as a base camp for excursions to Mt. Shivling. It provides a clearer view of Mt. Shivling, which is revered as one of the most sacred and beautiful mountains in the world. Tapovan is the ideal place to unwind after a strenuous hike. Mountain goats can be found roaming about here, just like you. Rest calmly in tents at the end of a long yet exciting day.

Day 6: Tapovan  to Chirbasa

Rise early to savor the final few moments in front of majestic mountains bathed in the sun’s rays. They all come together to create a stunning sight. After breakfast, it’s time to bring these memories back to life. Because there are no water sources, bring a packed lunch and plenty of water as you did before. Yes, you must cross the glacier’s rugged terrain and moraines once again. As you navigate your way around the boulders, you’ll notice that descending is more difficult than rising. Keep an eye on your steps and take them slowly. Retrace your steps and try to relive the moments. After descending steeply to Gomukh, continue walking along the Bhagirathi River. The walk to Chirbassa will take about 6-7 hours. You’ll then be back in the same pine woodlands.

Day 7 : Chirbasa To Gangotri

When you wake up, you’ll discover that today is the last day of your journey. Gangotri is reached after a 4-5 hour trek covering 8 kilometers. In the Gangotri National Park, you will re-enter. Streams and waterfalls can be used to refill water bottles. As the sight of the Bhagirathi and other high peaks fades, say your goodbyes.
In the guest house, you may get a hot meal and dinner. Pack your belongings to return to Dehradun and, with it, to your magnificent homes.

Day 8: Depart For Dehradun
Have one last cup of morning tea in Gangotri’s gorgeous land. Say your final goodbyes, exchange phone numbers, and reminisce with your fellow hikers. Before entering the cab that will transport you back to Dehradun, grab a fantastic group shot. This journey will take you through the mountains, and valleys, and along the Bhagirathi River for eight hours. Our excursion was accompanied by a river.
You should arrive in Dehradun by 5 p.m. and be able to start your return journey as planned. Take plenty of adventure-filled memories home with you, and vow to return to the mountains in the future.

Tips to get fit for Trekking

Experiencing trek is almost everyone’s passion or dream. But before starting or planning for a hike, you must be aware of the during and post-trek pain of your body. It is essential to be strong enough to enjoy your whole trek without any disruption of body ache. One book or decide several months before going on a hike, so you have a significant amount of time exercising your body and training it to become flexible for the trek.

Following are some advantages of training yourself before trek:

  • It fosters aerobic fitness.
  • It improves blood circulation and breathing functions as well.
  • It makes the heart strong, preventing it from any problem.
  • It helps in toning legs.
  • Muscles get build-up which is very beneficial.

Therefore, one must do practice to gain all these benefits. It is not only for the trek but for lifetime fitness also.
Let’s have a look at some factors which must be kept in mind to practice before trek:

Importance of Stretching

It helps the body become flexible and allows you to move your body in any direction you want quickly. It helps make the joints such as shoulders, elbows, hips and knees stronger to prevent any mishappening. It provides much relaxation to your body and relieves the pain. And if you are going on a trek, it is essential to practice stretching way before your hike. It will help you in moving to the higher altitudes region more efficiently.

Sleep like baby

It is always said that one must sleep like a baby. It means sleep without any worries. This makes you have an adequate amount of sleep which is a significant factor in daily life. So, practice it daily and also before your trek. Try to make yourself comfortable to sleep at higher altitudes.

Good Shoes-Good Trek

It is so evident that one has to walk and only walk while Trekking, so it is far more essential to have a good pair of trekking/hiking shoes. Practice walking by wearing your boots before the trek to make yourself used to them. You may opt for an option to keep an extra pair in your bag while trek to help yourself in the opposite condition.

Altitude is a risk. Before you begin the trek, you should be aware of the effects of high altitude on your body. Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) symptoms include a moderate headache, nausea, and overall discomfort.

Response: If you have any of these symptoms, notify the trek leader immediately and follow his advice. To deal with the scenario, each campsite contains a stretcher, a fully prepared first aid kit, and oxygen cylinders.

Weather Risk: No one can guarantee snow, rain, or sunlight, even if we keep a constant eye on the weather. Please keep in mind that your safety is our primary priority, and if the weather isn’t cooperating, we won’t leave the campsite.

Response: The choice to go or wait for better weather will be made solely by the Trek Leaders and Guides.

Risk: Injury is a possibility. While trekking across difficult terrains, minor injuries such as calf sprains, bruising, and other minor ailments are prevalent. Serious injuries, such as fractures or significant cuts, are quite uncommon.

Response: All of our Trek Leaders are trained in wilderness first aid. They’ve been taught to deal with emergencies and have well-stocked first-aid equipment to deal with minor injuries. In the event of major injuries, the patient is carried to the nearest roadhead on a stretcher and taken to the nearest medical facility.
